German pupils' visit in Keminmaa
made by class 6b of Kirkonmäki school
Welcome to Keminmaa

Friday 7th
In the evening at six o'clock we went to the airport to see our German friends. We were all very excited. Then the plane landed and we saw our friends. They were introduced to our parents. They looked excited, too. Then we drove home with them.
Saturday 8th
In the morning we had breakfast and tried to speak English. In the afternoon at two we met each other at Kalli skiing centre. We taught our German friends to ski. It was difficult and looked a little bit funny. We were sledging. It was great fun. Our German friends were screaming a lot. We had a snowfight. That was wild, too. We think they liked that, too. Our mothers had some drinks, sausages and waffles for us. So we went into the cottage. There was a terrible noise inside the house. After dinner many of us went Milla´s home. We talked and listened to music. Pauli and Mark went karting. They had a good time.
Sunday 9th
In the afternoon we all went to Kemi to see the snow castle. The weather was very windy and wet. We went shopping. Our guests bought some cards and stickers. We went to the ice restaurant and we drank cocoa. We saw a christening in the ice chapel. Then we visited the Gem Stone Gallery. We saw there beautiful stones. In the evening Heidi and her guests went to see her granny. Minna and her family went to Sweden. Saana went there too with her friend.
Monday 10th
In the morning we all came to school at eight. We had some lessons together. We played some games together. Our friends taught us one game called "7up". We had an English lesson together. We taught some Finnish words to our guests. The school finished at two p.m. Jessica, Magda and Sarah W. went to Kalli with Mika A., Janne and Tuomo. They had a great time. They were all wet when they came home. Most of the others went to Milla´s and talked and laughed.
Tuesday 11th
At 8.30 we met each other at school. We went by bus to Rovaniemi. First we visited the Arktikum. We had a guided tour for an hour. We thought it was boring. We were happy when it was over. Meanwhile our german friends studied things about Lapland. Then we all had packed lunch. After lunch we went around the museum as we wished. At 1 o´clock we left the museum and went shopping to the center of Rovaniemi. There was a toy shop with a merry-go-round. Nita, Tiia, Milla and Marika tried it. Then they noticed that the maximum weight was only sixty kgs. The shop assistant looked a little angry. In Tiimari Mira dropped a porcelaine doll. it was an accident and the assistant said it was OK: In Seppälä Laura dropped down lots of belts. Luckily they didn´t break. Some of our German friends bought caps. They said they were cheaper than in Germany. At four we went to the Arctic Circle and saw Santa Claus. We bought some presents for each other. At six p.m. we were back at home. It was nice trip but everybody was a little tired.
Wednesday 12th
Some of us took part in a skiing competition. Mika A. was the first, Juuso was the third, Heidi came third, Saana came fourth and Kati came sixth. Some of our German friends came to school alone. They had some difficulties to find the way. We had an ordinary schoolday and our guests visited other classes and did their own project. School ended at 2 p.m. In the evening most of us went to Lauri´s home. We had some chips and coke. German girls teased our boys and they liked it. Magda came sick and she and the others went to their homes.
Thursday 13th
We had a normal school day but our German friends were happy to go on a cruise on the ice breaker Sampo. Later we heard that they had really great time. The weather was very windy but they went swimming with special rubber clothing on. Some of them told that they had holes on their suits. So they got a little wet. In the evening some went to Haaparanta to Sweden. Nita, Tiia, Anja and Katrin went swimming to Tornio swimming baths.
Friday 14th
In the morning we had English lessons together. At twelve we went to the sportshall to show and teach our friends how to play Finnish baseball. Then we went shopping to Kemi. In the evening we had a goodbye disco. We danced and had a good time. There were lots of people and everybody danced. Dr Wagner was dancing with his students. Roland was dancing too. Our parents had a party in the teachers´room. They had a great time, too. We felt a little bit sad because we knew it was time to part from our German friends. We gave them gift books telling about Finland. It was amazing how good friends we became in only week´s time. We were happy to see that young people are all the same. It doesn´t matter where we live.
Saturday 15th
Now it was time to take our friends to the airport. We
all felt so sad. Some of us were crying and hugging. At a quarter past
two the plane took off taking our friends back home.
Have
