COMENIUS-project in 1996-1999
A short description of our project
1. The first planning meeting was on 1st-5th of June, 1996 in Kalmar. There were the headmaster Dr. Edgar Wagner, Christine Hewer, Christine Schroth and Dagmar Scheller from Germany, the headmaster Jan-Olof Åberg, Oili Karlsson and Ulf Stark from Sweden, the headmistress Mervi Hopia-Jaakkola, Doris Sarre and Tuulikki Heinonen from Finland. The subject for the project was selected " Historical, geographical and economical aspects while living and working by the river or the sea. The first thing was to make a brochure and to introduce the schools and the pupils taking part in the project. The next we had to describe the life and work in our own areas producing the material on big posters which were supposed to be sent to all partner schools.
2. The planning meeting in Keminmaa was on 29thof November-2nd of December in 1996. The participants were Edgar Wagner and Christine Hewer from Germany, Jan-Olof Åberg and Conny Börjesson from Sweden and Mervi Hopia-Jaakkola, Doris Sarre and Tuulikki Heinonen as hosts. The visitors were taken to see the Santa at the Arctic Circle, the Arcticum in Rovaniemi and last but not least we had a happy Christmas party.
3. On 7th-15th of May in 1997 a class from Ludwigshafen, Germany visited Keminmaa. They visited the school and many other places for example the Icebreaker Sampo, the Snow Castle , the Arctic Circle and the Arcticum. At the same time we had a meeting with Dr Edgar Wagner, Roland Sawadski, the teacher and the Finnish hosts Doris Sarre, Tuulikki Heinonen and Mervi Hopia-Jaakkola. We prepared the Finnish pupils´visit to Germany and also and the represantive of the parents´ Leena Halme joined the meeting, too. Dr Wagner met the other parents and had a conversation about the Finnish children´s trip to Germany.
4. The class 6B from Finland visited Ludwigshafen with Doris Sarre and Tuulikki Heinonen. And they had also two parents Esa Karjalainen and Leena Halme with them. The class visited many interesting places in Ludwigshafen and Mannheim e.g. Landesmuseum fur Technik und Arbeit in Mannheim, Technikmuseum in Speyer, a boat trip in the river Rhein and a visit to Heidelberg.
5. The first meeting of the second year of Comenius project took place on 22nd-26th September 1997 in Ludwigshafen, Germany. The participants were Jan-Olof Åberg and Margareta Lenkmann from Sweden, Mervi Hopia-Jaakkola and Jari Rajanen from Finland , Inge-Lise Christensen and Flemming Starcke-Jensen from Denmark and Edgar Wagner, Christine Hewer and Madeleine Rieth and Renate Bürk-Dornblüth from Germany. The new theme for the project was producing " A calender all year around ". We linked the classes from Finland , Denmark , Sweden and Germany with penfriend writing.
6. The partnership of the sixth classes in Finland, Germany and Sweden brought the teachers of these classes together to Keminmaa on 4th-11th February 1997. The guests visited Kirkonmäki and Katajaranta schools, the Snow Castle and the Jewellery Gallery in Kemi. The most exotic experience for the guests was probably the reindeer sleighing in the cold and frosty Finnish forest.
7. The last meeting for the third year of our Comenius project took place on 11th- 12th December 1998 in Kalmar. So the circle was closed! We started in Kalmar and the finishing meeting was there again. The participiants were Edgar Wagner, Madeleine Rieth and Renate Bürk-Dornblüth from Germany, Jörgen B. Svendsen from Denmark, Mervi Hopia-Jaakkola and Jari Rajanen from Finland and the hosts were Jan-Olof Åberg, Oili Karlsson and Conny Börjesson.
8. On 12th-16th May 1999 Dr. Edgar Wagner visited Keminmaa. Jari Rajanen and Edgar Wagner made www-pages of this project 1996-1999. They planned the pages together with Doris Sarre and Mervi Hopia-Jaakkola.
End of the project!
We've made wonderful experiences, we've found very good friends and we've done a good work to build Europe.
